The Isle of Man International Business School (The IBS) does not currently offer halls of residence for students – but we do operate a “Homestay” scheme for students who wish to stay with a local family. This is particularly popular with our first year international students. Alternatively a range of private rental opportunities are available to students on the Island.

Homestay Scheme

Living in a local homestay is especially beneficial to international students giving them the opportunity to improve their English in a family environment and a taste of the local way of life.

The IBS has inspected all of our homestay providers to ensure that the student accommodation on offer is clean, comfortable and conveniently located.  A homestay must be within reasonable travelling distance of the school and have good access to the local transport system. We also ensure that the accommodation offers the following:

  • An individual bedroom for each student, with a bed, furniture and study area
  • Access to shared facilities for cooking, cleaning and washing
  • Adequate heating, lighting etc
  • Accommodation complies with health and safety regulations.

Often you will find that homestay providers also include meals and internet access.

Prices normally range between £70 and £100 per week, depending on the facilities provided.

It is advised that students sign a contract with their host family before moving into homestay accommodation. The IBS holds no responsibility for any contractual arrangement made between hosts and students.

Private Rental Accommodation

Prices vary considerably in the private housing market and it is worth taking a look at a number of properties before deciding on where you want to rent. Such properties may be furnished or unfurnished.
Below are a list of estate agents on the Isle of Man and other sources of information which may be of use to you in searching for rental accommodation. Private Rentals are also advertised weekly in the local press.

Local rental price ranges are usually as follows:

  • 2 bedroom apartment - circa. £300-£350 per person per calendar month.
  • 3 bedroom apartment - circa. £250-£300 per person per calendar month.
  • 4 bedroom apartment - circa. £200-£250 per person per calendar month.
