IBS Consulting is a new division of the International Business School that has been created to focus on the provision of management consulting support to organisations operating in the Isle of Man and Europe. IBS Consulting helps clients to improve their business performance through improvements in Customer Service, Operational Excellence, Organisational Design, Knowledge Management and Management Development.

Peter Ginty of IBS Consulting talks about 'offshoring', the movement of back-office processing posts from west to east, in a recent interview with The Examiner's business editor, John Sherrocks. In the interview Peter gives his views about how to stay one step ahead of the game...

An Economic Forum chaired by Professor Mike Lloyd-Williams of the IBS has reviewed the IOM Government Treasury's economic strategy which was released in October. The forum was jointly hosted by the IBS and The Examiner's Business News and it was reported that, " While all forum members agreed the strategy provides a good blue-print for future debate there was concern that the government may be slow to act on it."

A new English Language Programme is now available at the IBS. It is primarily designed as a foundation programme to help international students achieve the level of English necessary to study on degree courses - but people can also opt to study individual modules such as English for Business. Programme manager, Bob Kirby, previously worked for Harrow International School in Bangkok, the British Council in Kuala Lumpur and also taught at the King Faisal Air Academy in Saudi Arabia.

The vice-chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University Professor Michael Brown visited the IBS recently and was full of praise for staff and students saying that, "The Manx people and government can be assured that the vision they supported is coming through."

Dr Leslie Gadman of the IBS has presented papers at recent conferences in Paris and Oxford. The presentations focussed on Sean's specialist interest in the areas of 'knowledge management' and 'innovation'.

The IBS celebrated its first Award Ceremony in October. Education Minister Steve Rodan presented awards to students who had completed qualifications ranging from Masters degrees in FInancial Regulation and Compliance Management to Chartered Management Institute awards. The ceremony also highlighted the success of the Manx Centre for Management Development, a joint venture between the IBS and the IOM College to offer the full range of Chartered Management Institute qualifications from level 2 for team leaders to level 5 for senior managers.

IBS lecturer, Dr Quentin Burrell, has been invited to join an international panel of leading scholars in the field of Information Science and to participate in a study about the 'Knowlege Map of Information Science'. He also has two publications in press for the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology. Earlier this year, Quentin gave a talk entitled '80/20 and all that: How to measure inequality' to the IOM Mathematical Society.
