IBS Calendar
----------------------
June is a transitional month in the IBS Calendar. Semester 2 has
just ended so current students have finished their
lectures and exams and are now enjoying 'Summer holidays'. Academic staff have been busy marking,
attending module assessment meetings with academic partners and
are now continuing to develop new programmes. And
as we look forward to the start of the next academic
year, we are advising organisations and individuals about
the range of flexible Higher Education options available through
the IBS from September 2003.
IBS Course provision 2003/04
---------------------------------------------------
Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programmes are now available
on a flexible full and part-time basis. We also aim
to extend Chartered Management Institute qualifications up to the
Executive Diploma
in
Management Level 5. Other new courses in development include Securities
Institute papers, Basics for Directors and ACCA Stage 3. Planned
collaborative programmes will also make IOD, ICA and STEP qualifications
available to study on the Island.

Undergraduate Work Placement Programme
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The IBS had a great response from local organisations offering
one year work placements to students on the Year 3
of the BA (Hons) Business Studies programme. All students have
been matched with vacancies
in a
range of public and private sector organisations. Students will
return
for the fourth and final year of their degree in September 2004.
Part-time Lecturer Vacancies
--------------------------------------------------
We are in the process of recruiting new part-time lecturers to
deliver and run degree modules in Information Management,
Research Methodology and Financial Engineering / Derivatives. Expressions of interest are
also
invited from lecturers in other business, management and finance
related subjects.
IBS Student Support
-----------------------------------
A new brochure and supplementary information sheets are now available
to provide prospective and current students with further
details and contacts for issues such as Travel, Accommodation, Sport & Recreation
and Student
Welfare.
Home Stay Accommodation
-----------------------------------------------
We are looking for 'homes from home' for our international students
and would like to hear from anyone who may be able
to help. Home Stay helps international students in
particular to practice their English language skills
and settle into life on the Isle of Man. We are looking forward
to welcoming new international students from various
countries around the world including Nepal, Nigeria, India and China.
IBS Learning Resources
------------------------------------------
Include a rapidly expanding library and on-line resources covering
Accounting, Economics, Management and Marketing with specific references
to Offshore Finance. These are all available to companies, individual
research students and secondary school teachers on the Island as
well as
Business Studies students at UK universities and Sixth Form students
on
the Island who are looking for a study base during their vacation.
Outdoor Events
----------------------------
We look forward to hosting the President of Tynwald's Garden Party
for a second year as it allows the opportunity for
a vibrant mix of people to enjoy the grounds of the
IBS. The Rotary Club is also hosting a corporate marquee event in the grounds of the IBS to support 'Water Aid'.
Academic Links
----------------------------
