European Study Trip for IBS Students
Postgraduate students following the
Masters degree in Financial Regulation & Compliance
Management at the International Business School have
recently returned from
a European study trip to London, Brussels, Bonn and Frankfurt.
The study trip, which is an integral
part of the programme, aims to provide participants with
an opportunity to visit
the UK Financial Services Authority; study the processes
of the European Union and its impact on financial regulation;
and, to consider how regulation and compliance culture
are organized in a different financial system, this year
in Germany. Of course issues about the Isle of Man's relationship
with the EU also arose.
On his return, Programme Leader Chris
Thomas, said: "I
think the participants were surprised to learn that the
Isle of Man was not discussed more in the EU, and I think
they noticed that Liechtenstein and Iceland, for example,
had representation on certain specialist European committees
in the area of financial regulation".
Students are pictured in the reception of the Eurotower,
Home of the European Central Bank, where the group heard
from Mr Panagiotis Strouzas, of the Prudential Supervision
Division, about the role of the European Central Bank in
Financial Regulation.
The group is off Island again at
the end of January to Washington, for the course study
visit to the United States.
