Back to School for Lieutenant Governor and Mrs Macfadyen

The Lieutenant Governor and his wife made a return visit to the International Business School last week to meet staff and students.  IBS Director, Professor Roger Carey and his staff gave an update on the International Business School's progress and development since their previous visit in 2001.

His Excellency and Mrs Macfadyen met first year students taking the BA (Hons) Business Studies degree in the Manx Telecom Learning Resource Centre where they were having a lecture for their 'Skills for Business' IT module with part-time lecturer Diane Cook (see photo of Mrs Macfadyen and Diane Cook - in the background are IBS Director Professor Roger Carey, and Learning Resources Manager, Paul Weatherall).  They then went on to meet second year students and the Business Studies Programme Leader, Dr Augustine Okanlawon.

The Lieutenant Governor is pictured talking to first year student, Clare Kelly, about her course and the new Microsoft XP software which has been installed at the Business School (see photo).

The visit included a tour of other buildings on the estate owned by the International Business School such as the old Chapel, cottages and stable block.  Professor Carey explained that he hoped, with sponsorship, the Chapel could be restored and that it would have the capacity to be used for small cultural events such as recitals.

The Lieutenant Governor and Mrs Macfadyen also met representatives from the Business School's Student Association, the Board of Governors and the Board of Directors.

Current second year students taking the Business Studies degree will start their 'sandwich year' workplacements in September 2003 before returning for their fourth and final year in 2004.  The Lieutenant Governor said that he looked forward to seeing them all graduate in 2005.
