Students' Dinner
2002
The International Business School held
its second annual HSBC Students' Dinner on Thursday evening to mark the beginning of
the new academic year. The event brought together staff, students
and supporters of the International Business School at the IBS 'home' at
The Nunnery along with special guests including Steve Rodan MHK,
Minister for Education, Ralph Thomas, Chairman of the Board of
Governors, Steve Rumsey of HSBC and Roger Barrs of Horwath Clark
Whitehill.
During the evening an award was presented
to Aly Lewin for outstanding performance during her first year
on the Business Studies degree
programme. Aly excelled in Financial Accounting, achieving the
highest mark for the module of all students from both the International
Business School and Liverpool John Moores University. Awards
were also announced for top postgraduate students Sean McGroggan,
of Zurich Financial Services, for the MSc Financial Regulation & Compliance
and Kevin O'Loughlin, of Abacus, for the MSc International Banking & Finance. All
awards were kindly donated and presented by Roger Barrs of Horwarth,
Clarke, Whitehill.
Prizes were also presented to first year
undergraduate students who had competed in a business start
up competition during their
induction week. Teams had been given the task of creating a
new business, preparing financial forecasts and marketing plans. The
winning team, consisting of Tom Lenihan, Jonathan Carling, Robert
Storey, Katie Cowell and Clare Kelly, were awarded prizes for
the best business start up idea which was to open a Night Club.
Steve Rumsey of HSBC marked the occasion
by congratulating staff and students for their hard work and
enthusiasm during the International
Business School's first year. Steve Rodan, MHK, also wished
the International Business School continued success and welcomed
the new students who he called 'pioneers' of the University of
Mann.
