The
new 'Manx
Centre for Management Development' Gains Accreditation from the
Chartered Management Institute
Following successful validation of
the new Manx Centre for Management Development
by the Chartered Management Institute there are
new management training options available for the Island's managers
and employers.
In a new joint venture the Isle of Man College
and the International Business School formed the
'Manx Centre for Management Development" in order to apply for joint
accreditation and offer the full range of Institute qualifications
which range from Level 2 for aspiring managers through to Level
5 for senior and general managers. Subject to demand, Levels 2 and
3 will be available at the College and Level 4 and 5 at the International
Business School from September.
Director of International Business School, Professor
Roger Carey said, "In working with the College, we are able to pool
our skills and experience and offer students a seamless transition
between institutions as they progress in their management career.
I am immensely pleased that the joint collaboration between institutions
makes this possible."
Dr Augustine Okanlawon, Centre Director for the
Manx Centre for Management Development hopes that the new programmes
will help to help shape and support the Island's 'managers of tomorrow'.
He explained, "As the need for personal development, guidance and
training grows year on year, Management Standards have been developed
to set down the occupational competencies that all managers should,
in some measure, be able to master. We chose the Chartered Management
Institute to accredit our management courses because they are the
leading organisation for professional development. In addition to
their training, students will also get automatic membership of the
Institute which opens up a range of resources geared to help them
successfully achieve their qualification."
Programmes offered include Introductory Awards,
Certificates and Diplomas available at Levels 2-5 which will be
taught on a part-time basis to make them accessible for people for
people who work full-time. It is also possible to select units to
study on an individual basis, for example, if 'Managing Performance'
or 'Developing Teams and Individuals' was a crucial area where training
was required.
The Manx Centre for Management Development has also
had the full support of the local branch of the Chartered Management
Institute. David Wigg, Chairman of the Chartered Management Institute
in the Isle of Man commenting on the Centre's success said, "We
congratulate the Manx Centre for Management Development on gaining
accreditation to offer these programmes on the Isle of Man. The
Chartered Management Institute's standards are high and accreditation
is a significant achievement. I would like to thank the Institute's
Education Officer, Clive Williams, for his work in helping to achieve
this result."
Mr. Wigg continued, "The Institute on the Island
has seen a large increase in the number of people participating
in management training courses in recent years and I believe that
this trend will accelerate. Clearly the availability of professionally
accredited training strengthens the offering."
Mr. Wigg added, "In an increasingly competitive
environment good management practices, firmly based on knowledge
gained from both training and experience, can make a major contribution
to the success of both the manager, and the organisation."
Dr Okanlawon recommends that anyone who would like
to find out more about the management training programmes starting
in September should contact the Manx Centre for Management Development
as soon as possible on Tel: 693700 or Email: enquiries@ibs.ac.im.
