Great First Year Results from IBS Students
and Staff
Students at the International Business School taking
undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes have achieved a
great set of results at the end of their first academic year - out
performing their counterparts in the UK.
The BA (Hons) Business Studies students achieved
an average of over 5% higher marks across the programme than students
taking the same course and assessments at Liverpool John Moores
University - the academic partner for the degree.
Professor Carey, Director of the International Business
School, said that the results were a splendid reflection on the
very hard work that students had put into their studies. He also
believes that it reflects on the efforts made by lecturers to ensure
that the first academic year was a success.
Postgraduate students taking the MSc in International
Banking & Finance and the MSc in Financial Regulation and Compliance
Management also averaged between 2% and 3% higher results than counterparts
at Liverpool John Moores University and London Guildhall University.
The International Business School is particularly
proud of undergraduate Business Studies student, Aly Lewin, who
achieved the highest result across both institutions for a module
on Financial Accounting. Aly, who is a full-time student also works
part-time in the finance sector. Initially after her 'A' Levels
Aly went into employment but last year she decided to return to
education and take a degree to further her career. Comments from
Aly to follow.
The Registrar, Martin Gershman, agrees that the
student's results are a tremendous achievement - particularly because
it was the International Business School's first academic year and
the first run through of the programmes.
Staff and students are now looking to the future
and the start of the International Business School's second academic
year, which commences in September. New options available on the
Business Studies programme include part-time study and entry at
level 2 of the undergraduate programme for applicants who have exemptions
because they hold other qualifications, for example, a Higher National
Diploma. There are also new modules to be introduced into the programme
to reflect changes in the business world. The MSc programme in International
Banking & Finance is also being offered on a new full-time basis
from September.
Dr Augustine Okanlawon, programme director for the
Business Studies programme, is keen to point out that although the
International Business School has had a very successful first year,
it operates in an ever improving academic environment. Staff and
students will need to continue to work hard to maintain and build
the reputation and 'track record' of a Higher Education institution
of which the Island can be proud.
