The Nunnery – facts

Built in 1823, The Nunnery mansion house is one of the Island’s finest buildings and was converted from a private residence into the Isle of Man International Business School in 1999.
The architectural style of The Nunnery is known as “Strawberry Hill Gothic”. It was designed by John Pinch, father and son, who were responsible for much of Regency Bath.
The house is built of Manx stone quarried from a site near Old Castletown Road.
The home of the Isle of Man International Business School has never actually been a nunnery, although The Estate has included both a monastery and a nunnery in its past.
With its rolling lawns, historic buildings and acres of woodland, The Nunnery Estate is an ideal venue for film-making
At least four motion pictures have been filmed on The Estate in recent years, including: Stiff Upper Lips (1996), Relative Values (1999), Chromophobia (2004) and Stormbreaker (2005).

Close to the business centre of Douglas (the Island’s capital), The Nunnery Mansion House is the ideal environment for higher learning. It has also been used as a Film Location and offers exquisite surroundings to accommodate corporate and private events both indoors and outdoors (see Room and Ground Hire for more information).

The IBS is located just 15 minutes on foot from Douglas Bus Station and central business district – including hotel accommodation, shops, restaurants and Ferry Terminal. We are 20 minutes by car from Ronaldsway Airport.
