Meet Our TeamYn Skimmee Ain
Quentin is our Senior Lecturer in Mathematics and Research Methodologies and is a well-known figure in the specialised topic of Informetrics, having served on five international conference programme committees and being four times nominated for the Derek de Solla Price Award. He was educated at Douglas High School for Boys and won scholarships to study Mathematics at the Victoria University of Manchester where he gained a BSc with first class honours. Subsequently he gained an MSc in Probability and Statistics at the University of Sheffield before returning to Manchester as a member of the academic staff, eventually earning a PhD and becoming Senior Lecturer in Mathematical Statistics. He has also worked as a Subject Specialist Reviewer in Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research for the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and as an Open University Course Tutor. He was persuaded out of retirement to join the Isle of Man International Business School on a half time basis in 2002. Quentin is the author of over fifty published papers in mathematics, statistics and information science and has carried out editorial, reviewing and refereeing services for many international journals in these fields. His recent research articles have appeared in publications including the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, Scientometrics and Information Processing and Management. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the international journals Scientometrics and the Journal of Informetrics. Quentin is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and a Member of the American Society for Information Science and Technology. He was the founding Chairman of the Isle of Man Mathematical Society, while other local interests include support for Laa Columb Killey, Colby AFC and Castletown RFC.
